The State Board of Education adopted the following requirement for the Standard School Counselor Certificate in Chapter 19 of the Texas Administrative Code Section §239.20: All school counselors must hold, at a minimum, a 48-hour master's degree in counseling from an accredited institution of higher education that at the time was accredited or otherwise approved by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Your comprehensive training includes a 12-month supervised internship that can be completed anywhere in Texas. As an intern, you will complete approximately 360 hours of counselor program training, which includes coursework, seminars, field experience, and active research.
